Pune: Man Attempts To Extort Rs 20 Lakh From Builder Atul Goel Using Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s Name, Six Persons Arrested

Pune, 14th January 2021: The officials from the Crime Branch Unit 1 of Pune City Police have arrested six persons for allegedly trying to extort Rs 20 lakh from builder Atul Goel, Managing Director of Goel Ganga Group. They had used a fake call app for calling the builder pretending to be the personal assistant (PA) of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

 

The arrested persons have been identified as Navnath Bhausaheb Choramale (28), resident of Shiraswadi in Haveli taluka, Saurabh Narayan Kakade (20) of Malwadi, Hadapsar, Sunil alias Bala Gautam Waghmare (28) and Kiran Rambhau Kakade (25), both residents of Theur, Chaitanya Rajendra Waghmare (19) of Bhekrainagar, Akash Sharad Nikalje (24) of Shiraswadi.

 

According to police, about 20 years ago the builder had bought land in Shiraswadi,  Wade Bolhai. A construction project was to be started there but it was caught in a dispute. Accused Chormale went to the builder’s office with his accomplices and demanded Rs 20 lakh to settle the dispute. He threatened not to allow the builder to set foot in the village if the money was not paid.

 

The builder had lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch. Accordingly, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srinivas Ghadge, a team led by Police Inspector Shailesh Sankhe laid a trap at the builder’s office on Bund Garden Road.

 

The crime branch team was stationed at the builders’ office in plain clothes and the builder was given Rs two lakh in fake notes. The three accused including Chormale came to the office to accept Rs two lakh as the first installment. While they were taking the money, the police caught them red-handed. The team also arrested the three accused after receiving information that they were keeping watch in the office.

 

Police said that, in the past, four cases were registered against accused Kakade at Lonikalbhor police station and one case has been registered against Waghmare. Kakde had made the call to builder Goel.

 

The investigation team included ACP Gajanan Tompe, Inspector Sankhe, API Sandeep Buwa, PSI Sanjay Gaikwad, Sunil Kulkani, Vikas Jadhav, and police personnel Satish Bhalekar, Mahesh Bamgude, Ashok Mane, Imran Sheikh, Ajay Thorat, Shashikant Darekar, Aniket Babar, Vijesingh Vasave, Datta Sonawane, Tushar Malwadkar, Yashwant Ombase, Ramesh Chaudhar, Duryodhan Gurav, Vivek Jadhav, Rajendra Landage and Amol Awhad.
