Pune Man Booked for Tampering Passport to Hide Bangkok Trips from Family

Pune, 16th April 2025: A 51-year-old man from Pune has landed in legal trouble after allegedly tearing pages from his passport in a bid to conceal multiple trips to Bangkok from his family. The incident came to light during a routine immigration check at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
According to immigration officer Rajiv Ranjan Kumar, the man had arrived in India via Vietnam following a holiday in Indonesia. During inspection, officers noticed that several pages were missing from his passport. Upon further examination, it was confirmed that the torn pages contained immigration stamps documenting his past visits to Bangkok.
“The passenger initially appeared nervous. A closer look revealed that multiple pages had been deliberately removed. During questioning, he confessed to destroying the pages over the past year to hide his travel history from his family,” said Officer Kumar in his complaint.
Tampering with a passport is a criminal offence under Indian law. Following the confession, the man was handed over to Sahar Police and booked under Section 12 of the Passport Act, 1967, which deals with willful damage to passport documents. He has also been charged under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for deceit and dishonest concealment of facts.
An investigation is underway, and officials have confirmed that further legal action will follow as per procedure.
