Bibvewadi, 2nd May 2021:  A 26-year-old man from Karnataka has been arrested by Pune city police for allegedly killing his mother-in-law with whom he was in a live-in relationship. They had eloped eight months ago and stayed in Bibvewadi.

The deceased has been identified as Anarkali Mohammad Terne (45). Police have arrested Asif Dastagir Attar, a resident of Gajabarwadi in Hukkeri taluk of Belgaum district in Karnataka.

According to police, the accused Attar was married to the daughter of the deceased Anarkali. But a few days after the marriage, Anarkali’s husband and daughter found out that there was a love affair between the son-in-law and the mother-in-law. The accused’s wife then left him. As a result, the mother-in-law and son-in-law came from Karnataka to live in Pune about eight months ago. They resided in Shelke Chawl in the Shelkevasti locality of Bibvewadi.

Police officials said that the ‘couple’ often quarrelled over domestic issues. Asif used to complain to Anarkali that she was not arranging meals properly. Anarkali complained that he was not paying enough for the house expenses. For these reasons, the two were constantly arguing. Also, on Saturday, around 9 am, after a heated argument between the two, Asif strangled his mother-in-law with a dupatta.

After getting information, DCP (Zone 5) Namrata Patil, Senior Police Inspector Sunil Zavare, Inspector (Crime) Anita Hiwarkar, API RC Usgaonkar visited the spot. Police arrested Asif within hours after the incident.
