Pune, 31st May 2023: A case has been registered against a young man, Mahendra Davkhar (27), who staged a protest at Sancheti bridge yesterday, demanding action against the tehsildar of Junnar.

The Khadki police station, Pune City Police, issued a notice under sections pertaining to attempting suicide and threatening an officer. The complaint was filed by policeman Somnath Kumbhar at the Khadki police station.

Mahendra, hailing from Junnar taluka, initiated the protest on Tuesday afternoon, alleging that the tehsildars are involved in unfair land registration practices. Holding a placard calling for action against the Junnar tehsildars, he began chanting slogans. He further threatened to commit suicide by jumping off the flyover.

Upon receiving information about the incident, firefighters successfully rescued him from the bridge. The case is being investigated by police sub-inspector Santosh Budrukar.

The police took action against Mahendra by registering a case against him, citing his actions as unlawful. The charges include attempting suicide, as well as threatening an officer. The investigation is currently ongoing, and further legal proceedings will be carried out accordingly.
