Khed, 3rd January 2025: A special court in Pune District’s Khed Taluka has sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for abusing a minor in a gym. Special Judge S. P. Pol delivered the verdict.

The case was registered at Junnar Police Station under Pune Rural Police Force, invoking IPC Section 377 (Unnatural Offences) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act of 2012 (POCSO). The victim’s mother had filed the complaint.

The incident occurred on the evening of 1st January 2022, when the victim was exercising at the gym. The accused subjected him to unnatural assault, but the child managed to escape. The frightened child informed his mother, who then filed a police complaint.

Police Sub-Inspector YY Patil investigated the matter and filed a chargesheet against the accused. Special Public Prosecutor Vikas Deshpande argued the case, presenting testimony from nine witnesses. The victim’s testimony, being a minor, was crucial to the case.

In his argument, Special Public Prosecutor Vikas Deshpande requested severe punishment for the accused, which the court accepted. The court ruled that the fine should be recovered from the accused and compensation should be given to the victim.

This verdict underscores the severity with which the judicial system treats crimes against minors, especially those of a sexual nature.
