Pune, March 9, 2020: On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020 on 8 March, Pune’s Aditya Tiwari was awarded the “World’s Best Mommy” award at a program Wempower in Bengaluru. Tiwari adopted a child with Down syndrome in 2016 and he is a single parent.

Aditya Tiwari, is an IT professional and a social activist. He was the youngest single father to adopt a child with Down syndrome. Since then, he has been working across India, on Advocacy of Persons with Down Syndrome and Adoption.

Aditya had adopted 22-month-old Avnish in 2016 and left his job to take care of the child. He worked as a software engineer. After adopting Avnish, Aditya started counseling and guiding parents of special children along with motivating them. Aditya has so far traveled to 22 states with his son Avnish, where he has participated in many meetings, workshops and conferences etc.

Talking to The Indian Express earlier, Aditya said, “We are connected to 10,000 parents worldwide. We were also called to a program in the United Nations, where I was asked to talk about the care of a special child.”

After adopting Avnish, Aditya realized that there was no separate category for intellectually disabled children in India, nor was the government giving him a disability certificate. Aditya sent an online petition to the government, after which a separate category has been created for children suffering from Down syndrome and now they are also issued disability certificates.
