Hadapsar, 17th January 2025: A 60-year-old farmer from Pune suffered a severe injury after being entangled in a stray nylon manja while riding his two-wheeler on the Sadesatra Nali to Hadapsar road on Tuesday evening. The victim, identified as Balu Kisan Pawar, received 20 stitches to his chin following the incident.

According to Assistant Police Inspector Umesh Rokade of the Hadapsar Police Station, Pawar was on his way to a petrol pump when the incident occurred. “While passing by an open area, a nylon manja got caught around his neck and chin. The manja caused a deep wound on his chin when Pawar instinctively pulled at it while still riding his bike. His hand was also injured in the process,” Rokade stated.

Pawar sought immediate treatment at a private hospital, where doctors stitched up his chin and treated his hand injuries. He was discharged after receiving medical care.

The farmer reported the incident to the police the following day, explaining that he could not identify the individual responsible for leaving the manja in the area. The police have since registered an FIR under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for negligence endangering human life and under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act for violating the ban on nylon manja.

“We are investigating the case and attempting to trace the person responsible for this act. Once their identity is confirmed, we will file a chargesheet and issue a notice requiring them to appear before the magistrate for bail,” added Assistant Inspector Rokade.
