Pune: Man Killed By Wife’s Brother Over Interfaith Marriage, Three Persons Arrested

Pimpri Chinchwad, 10th July 2024: Ameer Mohammed Sheikh (25), who had married outside his faith, was brutally murdered by his brother-in-law, Sushant Gopal Gaikwad, with the help of another brother-in-law, Ganesh Gaikwad, and a cousin, Pankaj Vishwanath Paikarao. The Bhosari MIDC Police have arrested the three men.

Sheikh, who had been living in Adarshnagar in Moshi, with his wife Nikita (also known as Arina) for the past five to six months, was attacked on June 15. The couple had married against the wishes of Nikita’s family, who disapproved of their interfaith relationship.

According to police, the Gaikwad family had never accepted Ameer, who worked as a driver, and Nikita’s marriage. Sushant Gopal Gaikwad harbored a deep resentment towards Ameer. On the day of the murder, Paikarao invited Ameer to a hotel on the Pune-Nashik road for a drink. After they had consumed alcohol, Sushant and Ganesh Gaikwad persuaded Ameer to continue drinking with them. The group moved to a forested area near Medankarwadi on Alandi-Chakan Road to continue drinking.

As the evening progressed, Sushant called Pankaj aside. While Pankaj stepped away, Sushant and Ganesh assaulted Ameer. The two men beat Ameer severely and then crushed his head with a stone, leading to his death. After they set his body on fire. Later, they disposed of the ashes in rivers Bhama and Bhima in Chakan.
