Man Shot Dead in Shirur Town
Pune, 18 September 2026: A 30-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified persons in Shirur town of Pune district on Friday morning, with police examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers.
The incident took place around 6.30am near Ambedkar Nagar. The victim, identified as Hari Gangawane, sustained multiple bullet injuries and died at the spot, police said. A CCTV camera installed near the scene captured the incident.
Residents alerted the Shirur police after hearing gunshots. A police team led by sub-divisional police officer Ravindra Bhosale and police inspector Vinod Patil reached the spot soon after. A forensic team was also called in to examine the scene and collect evidence.
Police recovered empty cartridges from the spot and seized them for further investigation. Investigators are examining whether the killing was linked to previous enmity, a gang-related dispute or a financial or property-related dispute.
CCTV footage from nearby shops and junctions is being examined to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved. Special police teams have also been sent to different locations to trace the suspects.
Police said the motive behind the killing is yet to be established and further investigation is underway.
