Pune, 25th April 2026: In a shocking incident on Saturday evening, a PMPML bus was allegedly stolen from the Deccan Bus Stand by an unidentified man and driven through busy city roads before being intercepted by police near Goodluck Chowk.

The bus, bearing registration number MH 12 YB 5086, was reportedly taken around 5.30 pm when it was parked at the Deccan depot. According to officials, the accused managed to start the vehicle and drove it out of the station without authorisation.

The bus was later seen being driven recklessly towards Goodluck Chowk, raising suspicion among local police personnel on duty in the area. As the vehicle made erratic movements while attempting to navigate the junction, police immediately began tracking it.

During the attempt to turn the bus at the chowk, the accused reportedly lost control of the vehicle. Police then intercepted the bus near a traffic signal, brought it to a halt, and detained the driver on the spot.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the individual had stolen the bus and was driving it in a dangerously negligent manner, including attempting to move against traffic and mounting a divider while trying to escape.

Pune Police acted swiftly to prevent a possible major accident. The bus was safely returned to the Deccan depot, while the accused was taken into custody and shifted to Deccan Police Station.

Officials said investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the act. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, though police confirmed that a serious accident was narrowly averted due to timely intervention.
