Pune: Man Thrashed by Bank Recovery Agents on Road in Hadapsar, MP Amol Kolhe Demands Action as Video Goes Viral
Hadapsar, 28th April 2026: A shocking incident of alleged assault by bank recovery agents has surfaced from Hadapsar in Pune, where a man was reportedly surrounded and beaten on a public road over pending loan dues. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, triggering outrage and raising concerns over recovery practices followed by banks and finance companies.
NCP (SP) MP from Shirur Amol Kolhe has also shared the video on his social media account and demanded immediate action from the state home department. He also questioned the law and order situation in Maharashtra.
Kolhe said borrowers who take loans often face repeated pressure from banks, recovery officers and agents. In many cases, when instalments are delayed due to financial difficulties, borrowers are allegedly threatened, abused and harassed. He said incidents of seizure of personal belongings and even physical assault have also been reported.
Referring to Reserve Bank of India guidelines, Kolhe said recovery agents are permitted to contact or meet borrowers only between 7 am and 7 pm. He said agents cannot physically or mentally harass, insult or assault borrowers under any circumstances.
He further said that default information cannot be disclosed to neighbours or friends in a manner that causes humiliation to the borrower.
Citing RBI norms, Kolhe said persons visiting for loan recovery must carry an official identity card and authorisation letter issued by the bank. He added that the Supreme Court has also made it clear that banks cannot recover loans through the use of muscle power or intimidation.
Kolhe said if a recovery agent violates the law, the concerned bank must also be held accountable.
Demanding strict action, the MP said the Hadapsar incident shows a disturbing disregard for legal norms and called upon the home department to take serious note of the matter. He said action should be taken not only against the recovery agents involved but also against the bank or private finance company linked to the incident.
He also urged authorities to curb the alleged high-handedness of private finance companies engaged in loan recovery.
