Pashan, 1st February 2022: A housing society in Panchwati off-Pashan Road in Pune has installed solar power units to cover common utilities such as water pumps, lifts, common lighting, etc.

The project was inaugurated at Mantri Avenue II Condominium in the presence of Suhas Patwardhan, chairman of Pune District Co-Operative Housing Societies and Apartments Federation, on January 26. It consists of three units with 20 KW, 3 KW, and 2 KW capacities.

Subhash Nikam, president of Mantri Avenue II Condominium, said “We are harnessing power from a natural source. Unlike other sources that are depleting we aim at using a sustainable and renewable source.”

Additional Secretary YS Gaur added, “The total cost of the project is Rs 16 lakh. With solar power being generated for all society utilities, there will be an estimated saving of Rs 3.5 lakh every year.”

With a life span of 20 years, solar power generation will bring about considerable savings in the monthly power bill. The solar project is the condominium’s humble contribution towards environmental protection through green energy.

Unlike other solar power projects that work on heater systems, this project works on-grid system. With this system, there is a surplus of energy and the unconsumed energy gets neutralized.

“Through this successful installation, the members of this condominium would like to appeal to the other housing societies to take up similar projects which are self-sustaining in nature, to encourage other societies, and besides contributing towards environmental protection,” said Dr Satish Shinde, secretary.
