Pune: Maratha Kranti Morcha To Felicitate Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra

Pune, 9th August 2021: A meeting of Maratha Kranti Morcha was organized in Pune today. MP Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje addressed the meeting. A resolution was tabled at the meeting of Maratha Kranti Morcha to hold a felicitation ceremony for Tokyo Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra.

In the final round of the javelin throw event, Neeraj won the medal by throwing a javelin at 87.03 meters in the first attempt and 87.58 meters in the second attempt.

Neeraj comes from the Rod Maratha community, based in Haryana, who are descendants of Maratha soldiers who fought in the third battle of Panipat.

Maratha Kranti Morcha has also appealed to the Maharashtra state government for a felicitation ceremony for Neeraj Chopra.

23-year-old Neeraj has previously won gold medals at the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Championships, the South Asian Games, and the World Junior Championships. Neeraj Chopra has taken training from German biomechanics expert Klaus Bartonitz to improve his javelin throwing skills. Since then, his performance has been consistent.

Neeraj is a junior commissioned officer (JCO) in the Indian Army. He has also received training at the Pune-based Army Sports Institute (ASI).
