Pune: Masked Man Carrying Knife Sparks Panic in Akurdi; Police Clarify He Was a Scrap Collector
Akurdi, 22nd August 2025: A brief panic erupted near Brahma Hotel in Akurdi earlier today after locals reported spotting a masked man roaming with a knife, allegedly creating fear among passersby.
Responding swiftly, the Nigdi Police Station investigation team, under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bansode, launched a search operation. The man was traced near Shitaladevi Chowk, close to Golden Gym, and detained for questioning.
Upon inquiry, the individual identified himself as Machhindra Narayan Navgire (68), a resident of Akurdi Gaothan, who works as a scrap collector. According to police, Navgire explained that he uses the knife to cut open gunny bags while collecting waste materials.
Police confirmed there was no malicious intent behind his actions, and the man was taken into custody for verification to ensure public safety. Authorities have urged citizens not to panic and to report any suspicious activity to the police promptly.
