Pune, 12th April 2026: In a move aimed at regulating street vending and addressing long-standing concerns of hawkers, Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has announced a series of measures to bring greater order and legality to the sector.
The initiative seeks to resolve issues faced by street vendors while ensuring that their businesses operate in a structured and authorised manner. As part of the plan, all vendors in the city will undergo police verification to ensure proper background checks.
Additionally, eligible vendors will be issued barcode or QR code-based identity cards, which will serve as official licences. These digital IDs will contain key details such as the vendor’s identity, type of business, and the location allotted for operations.
Officials said the move is expected to curb unauthorised vending while providing protection and recognition to legitimate vendors. It is also aimed at improving overall urban management and reducing congestion in public spaces.
Meanwhile, representatives of street vendors’ associations have submitted a written assurance to the municipal corporation, committing to maintain cleanliness, avoid littering, cooperate with civic authorities, and ensure that their activities do not obstruct traffic.
Mayor Nagpure has directed all concerned departments to ensure effective implementation of these measures.
The initiative is expected to make street vending in the city more organised, hygienic, and regulated, benefiting both vendors and the public.
