Pune Mayor Sets April-End Deadline for Drain Desilting, Warns Against Monsoon Delays

Pune, 12th February 2026: In a bid to avert flooding during the upcoming monsoon, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has directed the civic administration to complete all drain cleaning and desilting works across the city by the end of April. She has also mandated submission of daily progress reports to the Mayor’s office, making it clear that any delay in pre-monsoon preparedness will invite strict action.

Referring to the severe waterlogging witnessed in recent years, the Mayor underlined the growing frequency of intense rainfall and the vulnerability of low-lying pockets and riverside settlements. Officials have been instructed to revise and update the list of flood-prone areas and ensure that pumping stations and other flood-control systems are fully operational before the onset of rains.

Nagpure further announced that she will personally inspect sensitive locations to review ground-level preparedness. A comprehensive report on the status of the ongoing river improvement project and broader monsoon contingency planning has also been sought.

To prevent accidents caused by slippery or unfinished roads during the rainy season, the civic body has been asked to fix a deadline for issuing new road excavation permissions. Departments have been directed to prioritise the completion of ongoing works and restore all affected roads to their original condition before the monsoon arrives.

Emphasising inter-departmental coordination, the Mayor said proactive measures must be taken to minimise waterlogging, road damage, and traffic disruptions once heavy rains begin. A review meeting on monsoon preparedness is expected shortly.
