Pune Metro Ganeshotsav 2026: Trains to Run Every 5 Minutes During Peak Hours
Pune, 8th September 2026: With heavy traffic congestion expected on city roads during the upcoming Ganeshotsav, Pune Metro is set to increase train frequency during peak hours. Trains that currently operate at six-minute intervals during busy periods will run every five minutes, while the frequency during non-peak hours will remain at one train every 10 minutes.
The revised timetable has been under trial for the past few days and has been successful, according to MahaMetro officials. The new schedule is expected to be introduced from the first day of the Ganesh festival.
At present, around 2.5 lakh passengers use the Metro every day across the Vanaz-Ramwadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad-Swargate corridors. With ridership steadily increasing, officials said additional train services have become necessary.
Currently, around 554 train trips are operated daily across the two corridors. This number will also increase under the revised operational plan.
To implement the new timetable, all 33 trainsets available with MahaMetro will be deployed. At present, 30 trainsets are operating regularly. Under the revised arrangement, 17 trainsets will operate on the Vanaz-Ramwadi corridor, while 16 will be deployed on the Pimpri-Chinchwad-Swargate corridor.
The move is expected to provide commuters with a faster and more convenient public transport option during the festival, when large crowds and processions are likely to cause congestion on several major roads.
Meanwhile, MahaMetro has also stepped up security preparedness ahead of the festival. A mock drill was recently conducted jointly by the police administration and Pune Metro at Mahatma Phule Mandai Metro station.
The exercise was aimed at ensuring that security agencies and Metro personnel can respond quickly and effectively to any untoward incident or potential security threat at crowded locations. It also focused on improving coordination among various agencies involved in crowd management and emergency response.
