Pune Monsoon Health Alert: PMC Intensifies Fogging and Mosquito Control to Prevent Dengue, Malaria
Pune, 8th September 2026: With the monsoon increasing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified preventive measures across the city.
The civic health department has directed all ward offices to step up surveillance, identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites, conduct insecticide spraying and undertake awareness campaigns among citizens.
Special emphasis has been placed on fogging and other mosquito-control measures, as stagnant water during the monsoon can create favourable conditions for mosquito breeding. Each PMC ward office has been provided with a dedicated tempo vehicle for fogging operations.
The civic body has also deployed additional contractual manpower for the monsoon period, particularly in villages that were recently brought under the PMC limits. Officials have been instructed to ensure adequate staff availability in these areas for regular surveillance and preventive action.
Ward offices have been directed to identify areas vulnerable to mosquito-borne diseases and conduct regular monitoring. Preventive measures are to be intensified in these locations based on field survey findings.
The PMC has also stressed coordination among various civic departments to ensure that potential mosquito breeding sites are addressed promptly. Ward offices have been asked to coordinate with departments handling encroachments, solid waste management, sewage, building-related issues and other civic concerns.
Coordination with private organisations and other government agencies has also been emphasised. Ward offices have been instructed to maintain adequate stocks of insecticides and other materials required for mosquito-control operations.
“Preparations have been made by the PMC to keep communicable diseases under control during the monsoon. Each ward office has been provided with a dedicated tempo vehicle for fogging operations.
Additional contractual manpower has also been made available for the monsoon period, with special manpower deployed in the newly included villages,” said Dr Rajendra Dighe, Assistant Health Officer, PMC.
The civic health department has directed ward-level teams to maintain regular surveillance and take timely action against mosquito breeding sites to prevent an increase in dengue, malaria and other vector-borne diseases during the monsoon.
