Hinjawadi, 4th July 2025: In a major development for Pune’s traffic management, the first trial run of Pune Metro’s Line 3, connecting Shivajinagar to Hinjawadi, was successfully conducted. According to officials, 87% of the work on this corridor, especially in the Maan area, has been completed.

This metro line is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, particularly benefiting the residents and daily commuters of the ever-growing Hinjawadi IT hub. With worsening road conditions and increasing vehicular pressure, the Line 3 metro project is seen as a vital intervention.

The project is being executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCRL). Construction began on 25th November and is scheduled for completion by March 2026.

Line 3 will span 23.3 kilometers and consist of 23 stations, including interchanges with existing metro lines. Each train will have three air-conditioned coaches with a total capacity of approximately 1,000 passengers. The trains are designed to run at a speed of up to 80 km/h.

A PMRDA spokesperson stated, “The first trial run was successfully conducted on Friday, from Maan Depot to PMR 4 Station. Pune Metro Line 3 is in the final stages of development and is progressing at a record pace. It will definitely play a major role in easing traffic congestion across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and especially Hinjawadi.”
