Pune, May 14, 2020: Pune Metro has resumed construction work amid the lockdown. There was a temporary halt for more than a month due to COVID19 outbreak. The Pune Metro Rail Corporation had set a few deadlines for the PCMC-Swargate line in March and April 2020. However, due to the lockdown, the dates have already been slightly pushed. Now the authorities have this big challenge to complete the project before the monsoon begins.

The Pune Metro rail project is back on track after the state government recently gave the permission, allowing the infrastructure work in the city, which had been put on halt after the Centre had announced the nationwide lockdown last month. However Pune Metro has resumed work on Paud Road with safety measures in place but many labourers are still seen marching without maintaining social distancing, without wearing masks taking great risks of their lives and the people around them.

Several workers were seen gathered at one point is what now qualifies as a dangerous crowd, even the supervisors did not ask workers to maintain a proper distance. Is the safety of the workers taken for granted to complete the Pune Metro project before the monsoon arrives?  The authorities must put in place adequate safety measures for the workers.
