Pune Metro Rides Hit 2.11 Lakh on Raksha Bandhan, Earns Rs 28.3 Lakh in a Day
Pune/Pimpri Chinchwad, 11th August 2025: The Raksha Bandhan weekend brought a surge in passengers for the Maha Metro, with 2,11,296 commuters using the service on Saturday (9th August), generating ₹28,31,523 in revenue.
On Sunday (10th August), the second day of the festival, ridership was expected to climb even higher, as Metro stations witnessed heavy crowds and long queues at ticket counters. Many passengers opted for digital ticketing, thanks to machines installed alongside traditional ticket windows at stations.
The Maha Metro network connects Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad via two lines—the Purple Line (Pimpri–Swargate) and the Aqua Line (Vanaz–Ramwadi). On Saturday, 1,04,590 passengers travelled on the Purple Line, while the Aqua Line carried 1,06,706 passengers.
Commuters cited cheaper fares, air-conditioned comfort, and relief from traffic congestion as the main reasons for choosing the Metro over private app-based transport services.
