Pune, 17th March 2023: Metro service started in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad with great fanfare. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself gave the green flag to the Metro. However, the work of the first phase of the metro is still not finished. Due to this work, the problem of traffic congestion in the city is getting worse day by day, and it is seen that passengers have also turned their backs on the metro.

Metro passenger service in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities has been completed one year recently. The first phase of the metro consists of two lines of 33 km from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Station to Swargate Station (17 km) and Vanaz Station to Ramwadi Station (16 km).

Among them, the passenger service on the seven km route from PCMC Station to Phugewadi Station and on the five km route from Vanaz Station to Garware College Station was started on 6th March last year. However, even after a year, Metro has not been able to complete the extended passenger service.

Due to this, the problem of traffic congestion is taking a dire form. This is causing even more problems for drivers who are already suffering from the problem. Other government agencies, including the traffic police, are pointing the finger at the Metro for the city’s woes.
