Pune Metro’s Ruby Hall to Ramwadi Route Undergoes Crucial Inspection, To Be Operational Soon

Yerwada, 4th January 2024: Residents of Pune have reason to rejoice as the Pune Metro’s extended route from Ruby Hall to Ramwadi is on the verge of becoming operational. The completion of work on this line has prompted the arrival of a team from the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner for a week-long inspection, starting this week.

Mahametro, the overseeing authority, had initially aimed to commence operations on the extended Ruby Hall to Ramwadi route by the end of the previous year. However, due to ongoing inspections and clearances required from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, the launch has been rescheduled for early this year. The inspection team is set to scrutinize the extended route thoroughly, with a subsequent report submission to the Commissioner.

The construction of stairs for Yerwada station posed a challenge, leading to opposition from local citizens due to resulting traffic disruptions. Following directives from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Mahametro modified the entrance design of Yerwada station, necessitating the demolition and reconstruction of some stair pillars. Despite these challenges, the work has been completed, and the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner’s team is set to evaluate the entire route.

After the inspection team submits its report to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, the Commissioner will personally inspect the route. Upon receiving the green light, Mahametro will correspond with the state government regarding the launch of the route. The Maharashtra State Government will then make the final decision on initiating the metro service on this extended route.

Meanwhile, work on the Civil Court to Swargate line, featuring subway stations at Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate, is progressing. Although the line itself is complete, ongoing work on the underground stations is expected to conclude by the end of March.

Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director of Mahametro, expressed confidence in the completion and operationalization of the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi extension upon regulatory approvals.
