Pune: Minister Hasan Mushrif to Inaugurate Advanced Dental Labs at Rangoonwala College
Pune, 5th May 2026: Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif will inaugurate advanced pre-clinical laboratories at M. A. Rangoonwala College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre in Pune on May 7, marking a key milestone in the institution’s silver jubilee year.
The new Pre-clinical Prosthodontics and Pre-clinical Conservative Dentistry laboratories will be inaugurated at the Azam Campus as part of the college’s 20th graduation ceremony. The facility aims to strengthen early-stage clinical training for dental students before they begin treating patients.
Designed to simulate real clinical environments, the laboratories feature 100 fully equipped phantom head workstations. Each unit allows students to practise dental procedures in conditions closely resembling actual patient care. The facility is equipped with modern LED lighting, high-speed dental instruments, camera-assisted teaching systems, and large display screens for live demonstrations.
According to the institution, these features will enable students to observe, understand, and repeatedly practise procedures with greater clarity and precision.
Abeda P. Inamdar, President of MCE Society, said the initiative is aimed at improving both student learning and patient care outcomes. “This lab is an investment in the future of our students and in the dignity of patients. Better-prepared students become more confident, careful, and compassionate practitioners,” she said.
Dr Ramandeep Dugal, Dean and Head of the Department of Prosthodontics, Crown and Bridge, said the facility bridges the gap between theory and practice. “Modern dental education must prepare students not only for examinations but also for real-world practice. Early exposure through such labs helps students understand patient care and build confidence before entering clinical years,” he said.
Dr Vivek Hegde, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, highlighted the structured learning environment offered by the new labs. “Students can develop essential clinical skills such as posture, hand movement, instrument handling, and cavity preparation using phantom heads. Live demonstrations on large screens ensure that every student can clearly follow procedures,” he said.
The college added that the laboratories will also support future initiatives in digital dentistry, including advanced simulation technologies, digital modelling, and 3D-printed training models. The facility is expected to enhance standardised learning while prioritising student readiness and patient safety.
