Pune: MLA Mukta Tilak Passes Away At Age 57 After Battling Cancer For Five Years
Pune, 22nd December 2022: Mukta Shailesh Tilak, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA, passed away due to advanced cancer at 3:30 pm today (22nd December).
Tilak had been battling breast cancer for five years. The Galaxy CARE Multispeciality Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment, stated that despite aggressive treatment, the cancer was in its advanced stage and the response to treatment was minimal.
“She was admitted to Galaxy Hospital at 1 pm on 8th December 2022,” the hospital statement explained.
Mukta Tilak was the daughter-in-law of Jayantrao Tilak, who was Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s grandson.
She was elected as corporator of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2002, 2007, 2012 and 2017. She was elected Mayor of Pune for the period 2017 to 2019. Tilak was the first member of the BJP to hold the Mayor’s position.
