Pune, 22nd December 2022: A subway is proposed between Khed-Shivapur to Kikvi on the Pune-Satara National Highway.

In this regard, the revised proposal has been sent to the head office of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), State Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan informed the legislature.

Public Works Minister Chavan gave this information while replying to a pointed question asked by the people’s representatives regarding the works of the Pune-Satara highway. He said, “Currently, 97.50 per cent of the work has been completed. The work was delayed due to local opposition to the removal of encroachment on the road leading to the flyover at Shindewadi.”

He further said, “In Kikvi, Shivre, and Khed Shivapur, locals have opposed the work and have demanded a subway instead of the pre-planned pedestrian underpass, pedestrian flyover. A revised proposal in this regard has been sent to the NHAI head office and after approval, the pending works will be started.”

“Meanwhile, the encroachments within the highway are removed. Encroachments on the road boundary have been removed at some places in Shindewadi to Khed Shivapur Pathkar Naka area, and the remaining encroachments are being removed,” he added.

“Per the concession agreement, the project was scheduled to be completed by 30th March 2013. However, due to various reasons, such as delay in the transfer of land, difficulties encountered in the relocation of service channels, local demand for additional facilities, removal of encroachments from the highway boundary, stoppage of work by locals, relocation of religious places within the road boundary, local demand for changing the location and width of the underpass and Covid-19, delays were witnessed,” Chavan further clarified.

“Pune-Satara National Highway work is under the jurisdiction of Central Govt. The project works are being carried out as per the technical specifications mentioned in the concession agreement and the quality of the works is verified by an independent engineer as per the provisions of the agreement. All potholes on the road have been filled and flyover works on Pragati Path have been completed.”

Public Works Minister Chavan also said that the accidents that have occurred in the last six months are due to the high speed of vehicles, technical failure of vehicles, and loss of control of the driver.
