Pune: MNS Accuses PMC of ‘Artificial’ Water Cuts, Demands Immediate Rollback

Pune, 6th May 2025: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has alleged that the water cuts currently affecting South Pune are not due to natural scarcity but are a result of administrative failure and mismanagement within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). In a formal representation to Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, the party has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the “man-made” water cuts.
A delegation led by MNS General Secretary Hemant Sambhus met the Commissioner on Monday, accompanied by party members Adv. Priyanka Pise, Rohit Gurjar, Prashant Bholagir, Hanumant Mohite, and Kedar Kodolikar. The delegation submitted a memorandum, stating that residents of South Pune, despite paying their water bills regularly, are being unfairly subjected to supply reductions.
“This is not a drought-induced situation. The water cuts are being caused by unchecked leakages, rampant water theft, and corruption within the water supply system,” Sambhus said. “PMC’s lack of control over water distribution and its failure to act against corrupt practices, such as valvemen releasing water for bribes, has created this crisis,” he added.
The MNS has raised several pointed questions in the memorandum:
Why has the PMC not audited the causes of water cuts across the city?
Are the water meters, which are installed in most areas, being monitored at all?
Why are the authorities not taking action against systemic corruption within the water department?
Sambhus warned that if the municipal administration fails to revoke the cuts immediately, the MNS will launch an agitation in its characteristic aggressive style.
The allegations come at a time when many South Pune residents have been grappling with reduced water supply, leading to widespread inconvenience.
