Pune, August 13, 2020: Each ward under the Pune Municipal Corporation will get a mobile immersion tank this year, to help people immerse their Ganesh idols conveniently, close to home. The decision has been made in the backdrop of the prevailing Coronavirus situation in the city. Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol has appealed to the people to immerse their Ganesh idols at home itself.

The PMC has also requested people to give preference to Shadu (clay) idols only, and sodium bicarbonate will be provided by the PMC free of cost at all the ward offices, Arogya Kothis (medical clinics), etc to the people. The Mayor has also appealed to the people to prefer either clay or metal idols, as metal idols. Also, those who wish to donate their idols instead of immersing them can do so, as the PMC will also be making arrangements for the same.

“Every year, around 5 lakh Ganesh idols are immersed in the city every Ganeshotsav, and over 20 to 25 lakh people are on the roads on the days of immersion every year. Since that kind of crowd is not advisable in the city due to the Coronavirus outbreak, alternate arrangements have been made for immersion this year. I believe that Punekars will cooperate with the administration,” Mohol said.
