As summer holidays almost nearing to an end, here’s something worthwhile to finish your last few days of summer with a bang! Pune Model United Nations brings to you their nation-wide Essay Competition 2016. With an assortment of 14 topics from a wide range of variety related to current Global scenarios, this competition provides a platform for the youth today to announce to the world what they feel about the current socio, economic and political scenario.
But firstly, what is Model United Nations?
A Model United Nations conference is a simulation of the working of official bodies of the United Nations Organization. Participants role-play as diplomats and delegates of their respective nations and discuss and argue over real-life global issues. Pune Model United Nations is one organisation setting up MUN conferences based in Pune. Starting in 2012, it has brought up almost 3,500 delegates through various conferences, making it the largest youth conference in Pune.

The competition is categorised into three different age groups with the allotted topics as follows:- 
Category – I
Ages 12 to 15 years
My NGO, My Road to Success.
Are renewable energy sources assurances of future energy security?
Is democracy truly the best form of government?

Category – II
Ages 16 to 19 years
Republic of India: A potential permanent member of the UNSC
Counter-terrorism at the price of human rights violation: Doing more harm than good?
Are global economics at odds with our quest for sustainable development?
Shattering the Glass Ceiling: A woman’s role in women empowerment
How must the world respond to the threat of ISIS?
Nuclear armament: An effective deterrent or an illusory measure?

Category – III
Ages 20 to 25 years
Wall of Separation: What role should the religion play in government and politics?
Is international law an impediment to national sovereignty?
Peace v. Justice: Should perpetrators of violence and hatred be spared for the prospect of peace after a civil war?
In the wake of rising refugee influx, is closing national borders justified?
Does death penalty actually serve the purpose of a punitive deterrent?
