Pune: Moneylender Dispute Turns Ugly as Women Clash Inside Uruli Kanchan Police Station
Pune, 10th August 2026: A dispute over money between women turned into a heated confrontation on the premises of the Uruli Kanchan police station recently, after a woman approached police alleging harassment by a private moneylender.
According to police, the woman had borrowed money from the lender at interest but alleged that the lender later imposed excessive interest and repeatedly pressured her to pay more.
The woman had approached the police station to lodge a complaint against the lender. While she was speaking to police officials, the lender also arrived. Several other women allegedly reached the police station in support of the lender, leading to a verbal confrontation between the two groups. The argument soon escalated into a ruckus on the police station premises, leaving officials surprised and creating a tense situation for some time.
The complainant alleged that she had borrowed Rs 3.14 lakh from the lender and had already repaid Rs 10.84 lakh. Despite this, she claimed she was being stopped and threatened with demands for further payment. She sought registration of a case against the lender under the Maharashtra Money-Lending Act.
Following the incident, police registered a case against both the complainant and the moneylender in connection with the ruckus at the police station. Further investigation is underway.
