Pune: Motive Still Not Clear In Murder Of Woman Techie In Hinjawadi – Police

Hinjawadi, 29th January 2024: A 26-year-old techie was fatally shot, allegedly by her male friend, inside a hotel room in the Laxmi Chowk area of Hinjawadi on Saturday night.

The victim, identified as Vandana Dwivedi, hailed from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and had been employed with Infosys at Rajiv Gandhi IT Park in Hinjawadi, for the past two years.

The incident took place in a room of OYO Townhouse around 9:45 pm on Saturday, January 27. However police were informed the following day. The CCTV camera at the hotel has captured him coming out of the room.

During a Nakabandi operation on Sunday, Navi Mumbai police nabbed the accused, Rishabh Nigam, also a native of Lucknow.

In the preliminary interrogation by Navi Mumbai Police, Nigam has allegedly confessed to the murder. It was also revealed that both Vandana and Nigam resided in the same locality in Lucknow before she relocated to Pune for work. He worked as a real estate agent.

Hinjawadi police brought Nigam from Navi Mumbai on Sunday evening. “Currently, the accused is in disturbed state of mind and has not opened up about the granular details of the case”, a reliable source said.

When contacted, DCP (Zone 2) Bapu Bangar told Punekar News, “Our investigation is ongoing. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. We are also probing how he managed to get the pistol and where he has hidden it after the crime.”
