Pune, 29th March 2024: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has stirred frustration among lakhs of students in Maharashtra by postponing two crucial exams without providing rescheduled dates. The State Services Pre-examination and Social Welfare Department Examination have been deferred indefinitely, prompting over 5000 students to demand clarity on the timeline for these exams.

MPSC cited the need to await revised reservation determinations from the government, by the provisions of the Maharashtra State Reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Bill, 2024, as the reason for the postponement. However, despite this explanation, no new examination dates have been announced, leaving candidates in limbo.

Comparisons with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) have surfaced, highlighting UPSC’s proactive approach in rescheduling exams amidst the announcement of Lok Sabha elections. UPSC promptly notified candidates of the new dates for Civil Services and Indian Forest Service preliminary examinations, fostering a sense of transparency and alleviating uncertainty.

In contrast, MPSC’s handling of exam postponements has drawn criticism for its lack of clarity and failure to provide alternative dates. Students, burdened with financial and logistical challenges, stress the importance of timely announcements to aid in their preparation and planning.

The demand for prompt action from MPSC extends beyond exam dates. Students advocate for the expedited publication of results, issuance of revised seat allotments, and the release of general merit lists for other examinations.

In the face of mounting concerns and frustrations, students implore MPSC to prioritize transparency and promptly announce rescheduled exam dates. Failure to address these grievances risks undermining the trust and confidence of candidates, prompting questions about the commission’s commitment to justice and accountability.
