Pune: MSEDCL Appeals Ganesh Mandals To Take Temporary Connections During Ganeshotsava, Warns Of Action Over Usage Of Unauthorized Electricity

Pune 11th Sept 2023: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Limited (MSEDCL) has appealed to the Ganesh mandals in Pune to take temporary electricity connections for ganpati pandals during the Ganpati festival in the city. “Electricity tariff is being charged at a domestic rate for the festivals of all religions. Therefore, the ganesh mandals are requested to get temporary official power connection. Action will be taken as per Indian Electricity Act 2003 if Ganesh Mandals use unauthorized electricity during the festival, the officials said.
The MSEDCL officials have also appealed to the members of ganesh mandals in the city to take proper care in the pandal to avoid any danger or untoward incident. “As there is a possibility of rain during the Ganeshotsava festival, the Ganesh Mandals should take proper care of the power supplies to avoid any danger. Electrical arrangement and set-up for the pandal and lighting must be done by the authorized electrical contractors only and the mandals should ensure that the earthing of the electrical system in the Ganesh Utsav Mandap is in good condition” the MSEDCL officials said.
If the insulation of the wires is damaged, the current may flow through such wires into the iron sheets of the pandal or wet objects. To avoid this type of connection, the joints of the wires should be removed or if connections are to be made, they should be covered with insulation tape of suitable capacity, the officials said. The MSEDCL has released contact numbers of local officials responsible to handle emergency situations in case of need during the festival. “Pune Circle has provided a special contact number 7875767123 for the ten days during the festival for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city, Ambegaon, Junnar, Maval, Khed, Mulshi, Velhe, Haveli taluka in case of urgent help. Apart from this, the regular toll free number 1912 or 18002123435 or 18002333435 will also remain active” the MSEDCL officials said.
If the generator is started when the power supply is off due to some reason, the current in the generator flows into the low voltage line due to a single neutral and it creates a possibility of fatal accident. Hence it is essential to have separate neutral for power supply and generator during the festival. The officials have appealed to the ganesh mandals to check daily that the lighting wires installed in the public places along with the electricity system in the mandap are not bent down or disturbed to avoid any danger.
