Pune: MSEDCL Assistant Engineer Caught Demanding Bribe For Electricity Meter Installation

Vishrantwadi, 24th June 2023: Officials from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Pune unit have arrested an assistant engineer from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for allegedly soliciting a bribe in exchange for facilitating the installation of an electricity meter.

The process of filing an FIR against Assistant Engineer Harshali Om Dhavale from MSEDCL’s Dhanori branch office is currently underway at the Vishrantwadi police station.

As per the ACB, the complainant works for a contractor involved in electricity meter installation. The accused engineer reportedly demanded Rs 20,000 for sanctioning three 3-phase electricity meters, with one still pending. However, the bribe amount was later negotiated down to Rs 12,000.

Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB verified the bribe demand and set up a trap. The engineer was caught red-handed while demanding the bribe. ACB Police Inspector Praneta Sangolkar is leading the ongoing investigation.

Superintendent of Police (ACB) Amol Tambe has urged the public to approach the ACB if any government employee demands a bribe. The ACB office is located at Central Building near Sassoon Hospital in Pune, and individuals can also contact the toll-free number 1064 for assistance.
