Pune: College Student Demands $5,000 From Woman Professor By Threatening To Circulate Photos On Social Media, FIR Registered

Pune, 24th June 2023: A 26-year-old college student, identified as Mayank Singh from Patna, Bihar, has been booked for allegedly demanding extortion of $5,000 (Rs 4 lakh) from a 36-year-old female professor. He studies at a prominent college in Loni Kalbhor.

Mayank threatened to circulate audiotapes and photographs of the professor on social media platforms. The victim has lodged a complaint at the Hadapsar police station.

According to police, the student initiated contact with the professor by sending a friend request through social media. Subsequently, he began making threats, warning the professor that if she did not comply with his demands, he would publicly share her pictures, leading to defamation. Additionally, he recorded audiotape involving the professor.

Using the account name “Robin,” the accused continued to intimidate the professor. He sent the audio recording to her husband and demanded a payment of 5,000 dollars.

Frightened by the threats made against her, the female professor decided to report the incident to the police. The case is currently under investigation by Police Sub-Inspector Gandhale.
