Pune: MSEDCL Employee Caught Accepting Bribe For Reconnection Of Electricity Meter

Hadapsar, 21st November 2023: Action has been taken against Sohail Suleman Shaikh, a Junior Office Assistant at MSEDCL Office, Ganga Village Branch, Hadapsar Sub-Division-2, Pune, for accepting a bribe. The complainant, a 35-year-old male, reported the incident to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Pune City.

Shaikh, a 42-year-old Junior Office Assistant (Class-3) employed at the Ganga Village Branch of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), is the accused public servant in a bribery case. Shaikh had allegedly demanded a bribe amount of Rs 6,500 from a complainant for the reactivation of a permanently disconnected light meter connection of a purchased flat.

After negotiations, the compromise amount was settled at Rs 4,500. Today, the bribe was accepted by Shaikh at Shriram Chowk, Handewadi Road, Mohammedwadi, Hadapsar, Pune.

Police inspector Pravin Nimbalkar of the Anti-Corruption Bureau is currently investigating the case, and Sohail Suleman Shaikh has been detained, with the process of registering a case against him underway at Wanawadi Police Station, Pune City.

The complainant had permanently disconnected the light meter connection of a purchased flat. Sohail Shaikh demanded a bribe of Rs 4,500 to reactivate the light meter and enable online payment of the light bill.
