51st International Emmy Awards: Indian Artists Shine Among Global Nominees

New Delhi, 21st November 2023: The 51st International Emmy Awards, renowned as television’s most esteemed accolades globally, took place in New York on Monday night. Honouring 20 recipients across 14 diverse categories from a pool of 56 countries within the art and entertainment industry, the event celebrated outstanding talent in television programming from around the world.

The nominations, announced on 26th September 2023, highlighted numerous Indian shows and actors in contention for the prestigious Emmy Awards. Among the Indian nominees were Vir Das for his comedy series ‘Vir Das Landing,’ Jim Sarbh for ‘Rocket Boys,’ and Shefali Shah for ‘Delhi Crime 2.’

Vir Das clinched the award in the comedy category, marking a significant triumph for India on the global stage.
In a heartfelt recognition of her influential contributions to the Indian television industry, Ekta Kapoor, the co-founder of Balaji Telefilms, was presented with the esteemed Directorate Award at the 2023 Emmy Awards.

In addition to Vir Das’s win, several other distinguished individuals received accolades in various categories. Martin Freeman secured the Best Actor award for his performance in ‘The Responder’ TV series, while Carla Souza was honoured as the Best Actress for her role in the Mexican sports drama film ‘La Cida Dive.’

The coveted awards spanned a broad spectrum, recognizing exceptional contributions across different genres. ‘The Impress,’ a German web series, claimed the Best Drama Series Award, while ‘La Cada’ triumphed as the Best TV Movie and Mini-Series. Notably, ‘Yargi (Family Secrets)’ bagged the award for Best Telenovela.

Further showcasing global diversity in television, Netflix’s drama series ‘Heartbreak High’ won the Best Kids Live Action category, and ‘Built to Survive’ received recognition as the Best Kids Factorial and Entertainment production. The animated series ‘The Smaids and the Smoothies’ by Magic Light Pictures secured the Emmy Award for Best Kids Animation.

Recognizing excellence in various formats, ‘Des Janes Bien Ordinaires (A Very Ordinary World)’ claimed the award for Best Short Form Series, while the Best Non-Scripted Entertainment honor went to the Brazilian reality show ‘A Ponte – The Bridge Brazil.’ The prestigious Emmy Awards also acknowledged outstanding sports documentaries and arts programming, with ‘Harley & Katya’ and ‘Buffy Saint’s Mary: Carry It On’ respectively taking home the coveted awards.

The event served as a testament to the global impact and creative prowess of television artists and productions, celebrating excellence in the ever-evolving landscape of international television.
