Pune: Mula River Rejuvenation Project Jointly Taken By PMC And PCMC

Pimpri, 28th August 2022: The work of the rejuvenation project of the Mula river flowing through Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits is being done jointly by both municipalities.

 

Accordingly, the properties within the 10.35 km length of this river, which falls within the PCMC jurisdiction, have been enumerated.

 

For this, the Pune Municipal Corporation has paid Rs 49 lakh as a consultancy fee and Rs 30.59 lakh to the records department as a counting fee. Accordingly, a total of Rs 79.66 lakh has to be paid to the Pune Municipal Corporation.

 

The Mula river flows through Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune municipal limits. The total length of this river in both municipalities is 44.40 km. The length of the Mula river bank under Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is about 14.20 Kms. Since most of the river Purna falls within the limits of Pune Municipal Corporation, the work of rejuvenation of this river will be done jointly with Pune Municipal Corporation.

 

For this, the then Municipal Commissioner approved the proposal to appoint a project consultant, prepare a project report, jointly implement it with the Pune Municipal Corporation, and spend the length of the river flowing under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits.

Since this project is wide, it includes PMC, PCMC, Khadki Cantonment Board, and some Defense Department posts. Pune Municipal Corporation has divided the project under its jurisdiction into 11 parts. Tenders have been invited for some of them.

Accordingly, the total budgeted amount for the year 2021-22 prepared by the project consultant for the length of about 10.35 km falling within the Pimpri-Chinchwad area comes to approximately Rs 750 crore. The project requires land acquisition in some areas. The cost of land acquisition has not been included.

It will take approximately five years to implement the entire river length project. The amount coming according to the formula of possible price increase in five years and the amount required for land acquisition along with the administrative approval and provision for this project in a phased manner in the budget for the next five years was approved by the Municipal Administration on 6th April.

 

Accordingly, the embankment on the left bank of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will be done in the ‘Rural Riparian’ method. Also, the work on this bank has been planned following the work on the right bank.

 

The riverside properties have been enumerated to determine the extent of the river through various departments of the Land Records Department to prepare the project report. For this, the Pune Municipal Corporation has paid a total of Rs 30.59 lakh to the Municipal Land Survey Officer and Rs 18 thousand to the Deputy Superintendent of Land Records, Mulshi, as the measurement fee in Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits.

Also, the total fee of Ahmedabad-based consultant HCP Design and Planning Management Private Limited is Rs 4.21 crore. Out of this amount, the advisory fee amounts to Rs 49.7 lakh for the 10.35 km length of the Mula river flowing through Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits and the counting fee given to the records department is Rs 30.59 lakh, totalling to Rs 79. 66 lakh.

 

Commissioner Pune, through a letter dated June 27 2022, has demanded payment of Rs 79.66 lakh to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation as part of the metering fee. Accordingly, a tender will be released to implement the Mula River Rejuvenation Project in collaboration with the Pune Municipal Corporation.

 

The fee to be paid for this work will be given under the heading of implementing the Mula riverbank improvement project in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area jointly with Pune Municipal Corporation from the Department of Environmental Engineering.
