Pune, 7th June 2023: In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion in the Khadki area, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a funding of Rs 25 crores for the widening of two railway underpasses, announced Municipal Commissioner, Administrator Vikram Kumar. This decision was reached during a joint meeting between the Municipal Corporation, Khadki Cantonment Board, and Railway Administration held at the Municipal Corporation headquarters.

The Municipal Corporation has taken the initiative to bear the expenses for these development works. Currently, the metro project is underway in Khadki, running parallel to an existing railway line. The underpass on the railway line has significantly facilitated commuting for motorists in Aundh, Bopodi, Khadki, and Yerwada areas. However, due to its narrow width, traffic congestion remains a persistent issue.

To address this problem, the subways will undergo widening. The Municipal Corporation has pledged a fund of twenty-five crores for the Railway Administration to carry out the necessary modifications.

Additionally, the Municipal Corporation plans to widen the separate road adjacent to the subway, with an estimated expenditure of five crores. The Khadki Cantonment Board has agreed to allocate the required space for this road expansion.
