Pune Municipal Corporation Faces Leadership Shuffle: Additional Commissioners Dr Kunal Khemnar and Vikas Dhakne Transferred

Pune, 20th March 2024: Following the transfer of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Vikram Kumar, the Maharashtra Government has issued orders for the transfer of additional municipal commissioners Dr Kunal Khemnar and Vikas Dhakne. In a significant move, Nagpur Smart City CEO Prithviraj B Meena has been appointed as PMC Additional Commissioner, while Dr Khemnar has been appointed as the Sugar Commissioner.

The Maharashtra Government’s directive for the transfer of officials holding key positions came in compliance with the Election Commission’s orders. Prithviraj BP, a 2014 batch officer, assumes the role of PMC Additional Commissioner. Dr Khemnar, who previously served as Additional Commissioner of PMC, notably spearheaded various projects during his tenure, contributing significantly to the city’s development.

Similarly, Additional Commissioner Dhakne played a pivotal role in addressing road-related issues and facilitating essential projects such as improving road infrastructure and enhancing educational facilities. In other appointments, Santosh Patil, the Chief Executive Officer of Kolhapur Zilla Parishad, has been designated as the Chief Executive Officer of Pune Zilla Parishad.

Furthermore, Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, formerly with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has been appointed as the Managing Director of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation. Abhijit Bangar, previously serving as Thane Municipal Commissioner, has been appointed as Additional Commissioner in BMC.

The Maharashtra government’s actions also saw the transfer of thirteen chartered officers following directives from the Central Election Commission. Among these changes, Additional Commissioner P Velarasu has been replaced by Abhijit Bangar in BMC. Additionally, Rajesh Narvekar has assumed the role of commissioner of the Commissioner for Cooperation Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
