Pune Municipal Corporation Increases Flying Squad Vehicles to Tackle Garbage Issues
Pune, 24th December 2024: In Pune, the roads are being polluted in several ways, including burning and improper disposal of garbage. To address this, a flying squad has been established to take action against those responsible. This squad operates with the support of vehicles, enabling them to monitor and penalize offenders effectively. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has added ten new vehicles to the squad, increasing its total fleet to 18.
Inspired by Indore City in Madhya Pradesh, the PMC formed this flying squad to monitor and take action against littering in the city. To enhance its efficiency, the squad has been equipped with vehicles featuring the latest technology. The ten new vehicles were inaugurated on Tuesday by PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale. Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P, Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department Sandeep Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Zone One Raju Nandkar, along with Prasad Jagtap and Mukund Barve, were also present at the event.
The Solid Waste Management Department has been focusing on penalizing littering in public places, the use of banned plastic, noise pollution, spitting in public spaces, and waste burning. From October 2023 to 24th December, fines amounting to Rs. 4 crore 3 lakh 71 thousand have been collected in 72,778 cases. Additionally, 6,268 kilograms of plastic have been seized during this period.
