Pune, 25th November 2025: The draft reservation draw for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections has attracted 26 objections and suggestions, primarily over discrepancies in the allocation of seats for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.

According to the draft announced earlier this month, the civic body has a total of 165 seats across 41 wards. Of these, 40 wards have four members each, while the Ambegaon–Katraj ward (Ward 38) is a five-member ward. Half of all seats are reserved for women, resulting in 83 seats for female corporators and 82 for male corporators.

As per the population-based reservation matrix, 27 percent of seats were expected to be assigned to OBC candidates — a total of 45 seats.

However, the draft sets aside only 44 seats for OBCs. Meanwhile, 22 seats have been reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), one more than the expected 21, and two seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST), aligning with the requirement.

This reduction of one OBC seat and the increase in SC seats are at the centre of the objections filed by citizens and political representatives. The draft reservation draw was conducted on November 11 and published on November 17, after which objections and suggestions were invited until 3 pm on Tuesday, November 24. Submissions were accepted at the PMC Main Building, the Election Office, and ward offices.

Officials confirmed that 26 objections and suggestions have been received within the deadline. The administration will now scrutinise all submissions, and after evaluating valid objections, the final reservation draw is scheduled to be declared on December 2.
