Pune: Municipal Corporation Seals Sinhagad Institute Over Rs 266 Crore Property Tax Dues

Pune, 11th March 11, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken strict action against Sinhagad Institute for failing to clear property tax dues amounting to ₹266 crore. On Tuesday, the PMC’s Property Tax Department sealed multiple properties of the institute in Vadgaon Budruk and Kondhwa Budruk as part of seizure proceedings.
Deputy Commissioner of the Property Tax Collection Department, Madhav Jagtap, confirmed the action, stating, “Various properties of Sinhagad Institute have been in arrears for many years. Despite repeated notices, the dues remain unpaid. Earlier, we had sealed the institute’s office in Erandwane. Now, we have taken similar action against properties in Vadgaon Budruk and Kondhwa Budruk.”
Sinhagad Institute owns several properties, including colleges, schools, and offices, in Ambegaon Budruk, Kondhwa Budruk, and Erandwane. The total property tax arrears across these locations have reached ₹345 crore. Despite multiple notices from the PMC, the institute has not cleared its dues.
December 2024: The PMC seized the institute’s main office in Erandwane over unpaid dues of ₹47.43 crore.
Auction Process Initiated: As no payments were made, PMC has started auction proceedings for the Erandwane office.
March 2025 Action:
Vadgaon Budruk: 43 properties sealed over ₹198.61 crore in arrears.
Kondhwa Budruk: 6 properties sealed over ₹20.50 crore in arrears.
While the PMC has sealed several properties, it has not taken action against the institute’s operational colleges and schools, as they continue to function, and some of the properties are under judicial review. However, officials have warned of further action if the outstanding dues remain unpaid.
The crackdown on Sinhagad Institute marks one of the largest property tax recovery efforts by the Pune Municipal Corporation, as authorities push for stricter enforcement against tax defaulters.
