Pune Municipal Corporation’s New Road Plan To Ease Travel Between Charholi and Wagholi
Pune, 12th July 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has embarked on a new road project that will significantly reduce the distance and travel time between Charholi and Wagholi. Currently, there are three routes connecting the two places, with distances ranging from 16.5 km to 27 km, resulting in increased travel costs and time. However, with the construction of the new road, they will be a mere 5.7 kilometers apart, offering smoother traffic flow.
The road development plan comprises eight levels and work orders have been issued to a contractor company. The construction will be carried out through a public-private partnership (PPP) over a period of three years. This new road will not only bring Charholi closer to Wagholi but will also improve connectivity to other neighboring areas such as Alandi, Dehu, Bhosari, Nigdi, Pimpri Chinchwad and Chakan.
The road will connect Wagholi on the Pune-Ahmednagar road to Charholi within the city limits of Pimpri-Chinchwad. It will enhance connectivity to the PMRDA ring road, Vadgaon Shinde, and Lohegaon villages.
The Pune Municipal Corporation is leading the development of this road, which will offer a direct route for vehicles traveling to Pimpri-Chinchwad or Mumbai via Yerwada from the Ahmednagar Road, bypassing Pune. Furthermore, it will contribute to the improved connectivity promised by the proposed Ring Road by the Pune Metropolitan Area Development Authority (PMRDA).
Currently, vehicles traveling via the city road to Pimpri-Chinchwad pass through Yerwada, Vishrantwadi, or Khadki, Bopodi, including heavy vehicles such as trucks, passenger buses, and containers. This often results in traffic congestion and increased travel distances, fuel consumption, and expenses.
In the future, the new road will alleviate traffic congestion at Kharadi bypass chowk, Yerwada, Vishrantwadi, Khadki, Bopodi in Pune, and Dapodi, Dighi, and Bhosari in Pimpri-Chinchwad. It will significantly reduce the distance between Pimpri Chinchwad, Nigdi, Charholi, Alandi, and Wagholi, resulting in time, fuel, and cost savings for commuters.
The project includes the construction of service roads on both sides, roadside storm drains, street lights for illumination, and traffic control lights. These road improvements will enhance connectivity for various routes, including the Alandi-Pune Palkhi route, Pune-Nashik Highway, Mumbai-Pune Highway, and Mumbai-Bangalore Highway.
