Pune: Municipal Elections In Maharashtra Likely To Be Held in September -October, Notification Issued By Election Commission

Pune, 7th July 2023: After a delay of three years due to the pandemic and several other reasons, the municipal elections in major cities of Maharashtra including Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad are likely to be conducted between September and October this year. According to the notification issued by the Election Commission for the voters list, it is also mentioned that the local bodies elections in the state will be held between September and October.

 

The State Election Commission has released a notification on 5th July that specifically mentions the utilization of the voter lists of the State Legislature for all local self-governing body elections. The notification states, “The voter lists of the Maharashtra Legislature in existence on 1st July 2023 will be used for the preparation of voter lists for the municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats, district councils, Panchayat Samitis, and Gram Panchayats for the general or by-elections to be held from September 2023 to October 2023.”

 

The notification has been issued by the Deputy Secretary of the State Election Commission, K. Suryakrishnamurthy. The notification confirms that all the pending elections of local self-governing bodies in the state will be conducted in September and October. Currently many municipal corporations in the state are run by municipal commissioners as administrators for over an year.
