Reported by Varad Bhatkhande
Yerwada, 19th November 2024: Yesterday, the silence period began, and people will go to polling tomorrow for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections. Amidst this, in Pune’s Vadgaonsheri Constituency, Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) leader Chandrakant Tingre was attacked by unknown individuals this afternoon.
According to reports, Chandrakant Tingre, along with his driver, was in a Toyota Innova car in front of Yerawada Fire Station at around 3 PM today when two unknown individuals attacked the car with stones. The car was damaged, and Tingre was injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Chandrakant Tingre, along with his wife Rekha Tingre, had rebelled against Mahayuti and joined Sharad Pawar-led NCP months ago. The official NCP-SP candidate from Vadgaonsheri Constituency, Bapusaheb Pathare, and his activists rushed to the spot upon hearing about the incident and also met Tingre in the hospital.
Regarding this, Bapusaheb Pathare, who is representing Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA), said, “There are only a few hours left for the election. The attack on an important leader and activist in the Vadgaonsheri area is a very condemnable matter. The battle of ideas should be fought with ideas. If someone is resorting to violence, their intentions will not succeed. This is the land of saints and warkaris. Violence will be resisted fearlessly, and the attackers will be taught a lesson through democracy,” said Pathare.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Himmat Jadhav said, “The attack occurred around 3:15 PM today when two unknown individuals threw stones at Chandrakant Tingre’s car. Tingre sustained minor injuries and is stable. A case is being registered, and we are searching for the assailants.”
