Sonapur, 30th August 2025: The calm of Khadakwasla’s backwaters was pierced by shock and fear late Friday night when villagers of Sonapur, Haveli taluka, stumbled upon a bloated body drifting in the riverbed along the Pune–Panshet road.

The discovery, made around midnight (Aug 30), sent ripples of unease through the settlement. Sonapur’s police patil, Gauri Chavan, immediately raised the alarm, drawing the attention of Haveli Police. Within minutes, Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Santosh Todkar reached the scene with a team, aided by local volunteers. Together, villagers including Ravindra Hadke, Gorakhnath Pawale, Tanaji Bhosale, Ganesh Sapkal, Sanjay Chorghe, Sandeep Solaskar, Vikram Biramne, Uttam Pisal, and Vaibhav Bhosale, helped retrieve the body from the dark waters.

After conducting the panchnama, the authorities sent the remains to Sassoon General Hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary observations suggest the deceased man was between 30 and 40 years old. His identity, however, remains a mystery. Investigators are examining his clothing and body marks in search of clues.

Haveli Police have also reached out to city and rural stations to cross-check missing persons reports, hoping to piece together the man’s final journey.
The unsettling discovery has left Sonapur residents on edge. Speculation runs high — was it a tragic accident, an unfortunate drowning, or something more sinister? Officials are treading cautiously, emphasizing that the cause of death will be revealed only after the autopsy report.

The unidentified body has not only raised troubling questions for the police but also unsettled the villagers, who wait anxiously to learn who the man was and how his life ended beneath the still surface of the dam.
