Pune-Nashik Highway Congestion: PMRDA Removes 40 Encroachments in Chakan MIDC
Chakan, 11th September 2025: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has begun concrete measures to tackle urban congestion and traffic problems in the Chakan MIDC area. Since Wednesday, authorities have acted against 40 unauthorized encroachments along the Pune-Nashik highway, under police protection and with the support of the Municipal Council and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Last week, PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase convened a meeting with officials from relevant administrative departments to plan action against unauthorized constructions and encroachments in Chakan MIDC and other city areas. Following his directives, the encroachment removal operation has started along the stretch from Chakan-Talegaon Chowk and Ambethan Chowk to Ektanagar.
“Notices were issued earlier to encroachers to remove the illegal structures voluntarily. However, due to non-compliance, we have initiated this campaign,” a PMRDA official said.
The drive aims to smoothen traffic flow along the Pune-Nashik highway. Encroachments within 22.5 meters on both sides of the highway are being cleared to ensure unhindered vehicular movement.
Officials overseeing the operation included Dilip Shinde, Joint Executive Engineer of NHAI; Ravindra Ranjane, PMRDA official; Dr. Ankush Jadhav, Chief Officer of the Municipal Council; Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Solanke; and Traffic Department SI Pramod Wagh, along with teams from various departments and the Encroachment Removal Department.
Authorities have clarified that the campaign will continue in the coming days to further decongest the area and ensure smooth traffic flow for commuters and commercial vehicles in the industrial zone.
