Pune-Nashik Highway in Bhosari Becomes Death Trap for Drivers due to Missing Reflectors

Pimpri Chinchwad, 25th February 2023: The dilapidated condition of the Pune-Nashik Highway in the Bhosari area has become a serious safety concern for drivers, as most of the reflectors in the road divider have gone missing, creating a risk of accidents. The installation of reflectors was meant to prevent drivers from facing any problems while driving on this road at night. However, due to the missing or broken reflectors, the intense light of the vehicles coming from the front is directly shining on the drivers’ eyes at night, making it difficult for them to see the road ahead. This has resulted in numerous accidents, turning the highway into a death trap.

Despite the highway being repaired by the IRB company, the same company that has collected thousands of crores of rupees through toll collection, there has been no visible maintenance or minor work done on the highway in the past ten years. The dividers are broken at many places, and drivers are still driving on these dividers, which is causing accidents. The highway from Nashik Phata to Chakan, an industrial area, has become particularly dangerous, with the highest number of accidents occurring on the road from Jai Ganesh Empire Chowk to Moshi toll plaza.

Due to the increasing traffic and the rapid development of industrial areas in Bhosari, Chakan, and Moshi, maintaining safety on the highway has become an essential responsibility, as the lives of drivers and pedestrians are at risk. Despite concerns raised by drivers and pedestrians, there has been no solution offered by the administration. Last year, the highway was submerged due to heavy rain during the monsoon, which brought the traffic from Rajgurunagar to Bhosari to a standstill for two days. However, the administration only provided a temporary bandage solution, and safety issues on the highway remain a serious concern.

The installation of reflectors on the highway dividers is crucial to ensuring drivers’ safety at night, as it blocks the intense light of the vehicle in front of the road bifurcation. The absence of reflectors is causing a significant safety hazard and increasing the risk of accidents. The industrial areas in the region are continually expanding, and the traffic on the highway is only increasing. It is imperative that the IRB company takes responsibility and ensures the safety of drivers on the highway. The administration must take action and immediately install reflectors on the road divider to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
