Pune: National Defence Academy Cadet Dies Following Boxing Injury

Khadakwasla, 18th October 2023: The National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla announced today the tragic loss of Squadron Cadet Captain Pratham Mahale, a Maharashtra native who succumbed to a head injury sustained during an Inter Squadron Boxing Competition.

The incident occurred on October 16, and despite immediate medical intervention, Mahale passed away at 5 a.m. on October 18 at Command Hospital, Pune.

Mahale had joined the academy on April 18, 2021, as part of the 145th Course. He suffered a head injury that led to internal bleeding during the boxing event. Surgical attempts to halt the bleeding were unsuccessful, and the cadet could not be revived.

The mortal remains of Cadet Captain Pratham Mahale were accorded full military honors at the National Defence Academy. A wreath was laid on behalf of the academy by Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, Commandant, National Defence Academy.

The NDA fraternity has expressed its heartfelt condolences to Mahale’s family in this difficult time.
